Mark Rober accused of talking to four-year-old and recording video of friend’s car crash before daughter was killed

The TikTok singer Mark Rober has been accused of spying on his young daughter’s tablet just hours before she was killed in a car crash and reported missing, according to reports.

Gabrielle Anwar, 29, lost control of her Ford Fiesta and collided with an electrical tower in San Fernando, California, on Monday, police said.

That same day, according to TMZ, Rober asked Anwar for her daughter’s iPad, and although Anwar was too upset to speak to anyone, reportedly took video of her car crash.

She had called police and was apparently too distraught to talk to anyone or any news outlets, so she asked Rober to “think about what he’s done”, said TMZ. Rober allegedly admitted to allegedly having recorded the accident.

“I ruined my life,” Anwar told reporters on Tuesday, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I’m in so much pain and so many questions that I don’t know how to ask them right now. I’m not able to.”

Rober, 28, from Australia, who has a YouTube channel with more than 5 million subscribers for his TikTok videos, has not responded to inquiries from the Guardian.

He is currently on a short-term work visa and was in Los Angeles to study for a master’s degree in software development at NYU.

A friend, Steven Chamberlain, told ABC7 in Los Angeles that Rober had been texting Anwar for hours on Sunday evening, with Rober apparently trying to persuade her to allow him to see her daughter. She eventually agreed, but Chamberlain said Rober tried to use the device to secretly record Anwar’s night before the crash.

“I asked her, ‘What are you doing on the phone?’ She said she had been talking to her four-year-old daughter,” Chamberlain said. “The phone said it had been turned off but I really doubted that.”

Chamberlain added: “The phone’s memory seemed to be full of old videos.”

Anwar’s four-year-old daughter, Zoe, is missing and presumed dead. A candlelight vigil will be held on Thursday evening in the area.
