Staff at Spanx, the successful US firm that manufactures comfortable underwear for women, will get paid two first-class air tickets for an entire year, company director Sharon Weston Beshears has revealed.
A message sent to the female employees saying they would be rewarded for their dedication to their work was going viral this week. “Each female employee will receive two first-class tickets for one year on a big-name airline such as American, Delta, United, All Nippon, Qatar, Emirates, Thai, KLM, Cathay, Singapore, South Korean Air, Etihad, KLM Royal Dutch, Panasonic, SilkAir, China Southern, China Airlines, Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific, JetBlue, AirAsia, Hong Kong Airlines, ANA, BA, American Airlines, etc,” the email read.
The email to female employees at Spanx, sent out by its director, Sharon Weston Beshears.
One reader in the US contacted the Wall Street Journal on Twitter, asking if anyone else had received such an email. The company replied that at least four people had.
The message said the incentive would not be taken advantage of, saying: “In response to customer feedback it was decided by the employees to take this personal time-out with regards to creating a sense of fulfilment that our families, friends and company wanted to create.”
“Please do not email me regarding the statement above because this is our policy – either they decide the value or they let me know. In other words, no one pays attention to this message when it’s emailed to them (unless we get feedback that says otherwise).”
The email hinted at a high-profile title for the prize. “Be as creative as you can. Many of us have gone on to get our master’s degrees, and a few of us – including Sharon – have even gone to law school, starting careers that have changed our lives for the better.”
It told women not to lose the tickets, for which they will be given a PIN number, but also to send regular replies to the company thanking them for their work: “Thank you again for all you do to keep Spanx in our minds, on our backs and at the top of our dreams. Spread the word, and help celebrate the fabulousness. Also, please don’t let this opportunity slip through your fingers, as we are looking for a good number of you to take this… you know… On a plane! To and from wherever the world happens to be for that matter…”
