Mr. Rapp, now 44, said that in the mid-80s, he encountered the 27-year-old Ryan O’Neal when he was 18 and he was visiting L.A. Mr. O’Neal and Mr. Rapp, starring together in a Broadway revival of Angels in America in 1985, now live in New York.
Mr. O’Neal and his first wife, Farrah Fawcett, at their wedding in 1987.
Now the two actors have moved on. Mr. O’Neal is selling his remodeled 1970s apartment at the Greenwich Hotel on upper East 11th Street. According to his broker, Laurencia Martin of Prudential Douglas Elliman, it’s on the market for $2.599 million.
The apartment has four bedrooms, 2½ bathrooms, a private rooftop garden and a spiral staircase. According to Ms. Martin, Mr. O’Neal has two hardwood floors, 22 original light bulbs and a carpeted living room in the upper half of the apartment. A library/bedroom floor offers a bit more modernity, with custom ceiling, a fireplace and French doors, and a bathroom with a steam shower.
Mr. O’Neal’s mother, actress Farrah Fawcett, and his friend, actor Ryan O’Neal, presented the gay rights activist with his first apartment when he was 18. That apartment has since been renovated, says Ms. Martin, and included in the sale.
Since Mr. O’Neal has changed his team of agents, he has asked her to move him off the market, so that he could devote more time to selling the apartment that recently drew the attention of the media.
